CRUNK LESSONS

Crunk Lessons is a 2013 hip hop cover of Adrian Piper’s 1983 work “Funk Lessons” using the same structure (history lesson + dance lesson), but tracing the evolution of rap music from its 1970s origins to the early 2000s. Participants learn basic head nods, hand gestures, shoulder shrugs and rump shaking, while simultaneously exploring race and gender stereotypes in hip hop.
